Hi. I've just purchased a Renault 4TL 1992 model. Can anyone advise me where I would be able to buy a head gasket set and also an owners manual. Thanks in advance.

hello Malcolm, congratulations on your new car. 1992 is the last year they were produced.

I bought my workshop manual from Amazon for about 20 pounds and I buy most of my parts from der Franzose in Germany.

I don't know how much work you're planning on doing, but you you might consider buying a complete engine gasket set, which includes the cylinder head gasket.

Good luck!

Head gasket set : be aware that earlier R4TLs (including all those sold in the UK) were 845cc, whereas the late ones (e.g. 1992) were 956, so if you order a head gasket set for a "TL" from a UK supplier it might not fit. Haynes did a workshop manual but it doesn't cover the last years of the R4 as the car was not available in the UK after 1986 (R4TLs not after 1981) and doesn't cover the 956cc engine at all. The correct Renault Parts book (which gives part numbers up to 1993 which should be sufficient to track today's numbers, plus exploded diagrams) is PR 1104 which turns up online occasionally. There are earlier editions but with a really late-plate car like yours those will lead you astray.

If you want more detailed advice from this Forum you need to specify the model version. It should be 112C00 and you'll find this on a square plate inside the engine compartment. Then any advice from other members will be accurate. Scan a photo of the plate and post it here.

HOWEVER : there was a very tasty C-reg LHD R4TL on EBay recently bought for £1210 by someone whose EBay bidder ID was listed as m***m. If that is you, then you have an 845cc model (the engine size didn't change until 1988), type R1123.

Thanks for the advice. The car is in France, where I spend half my time. I will be going back in about 3 weeks. I do know the numbers on the engine plate are
CICC7/08
C126387
I have been told it is the 956 engine.
