55/60W H4 on 1983 4tl 845. Does it need a resistor?

Hi all

Now that the poor thing is running I need to replace a dead headlight bulb, and as gasstations and supermarkets here you can only get 55/60w H4's.

Is it okay to just put one of those in, or do I have to find and fit a resistor of some sort?

Sorry do you mean P45t not H4? Standard H4 would require an adapter. One can purchase P45t with halogen bulb.

I have always fitted a relay when I have upgraded the headlamps

(Some later GTLs did come (or could be fitted with) headlights that used H4 bulbs. The 'H4 headlight' (no longer available in the UK) had part number 77 01 022 086 I think.)

No a P43t H4. It has the same connectors :) Hmm, then I need to find a place hereabout to find a relay

When you say relay, do you then mean fitting a resistor in before the lamp, because I dont know the kind of relay you would use.

I can buy the old style bulbs at a tractordealer though ;) The R4 must be spiritually connected to those then!

The light was actually pretty darn good with the old bulbs, so im keeping with fitting new 40/45w's instead. Now that I have found a supplier :)
The old one has been in the car for so long that the specifications on the side are unreadable...

I found a danish site on how it works, I just had'nt heard about it before :) But the old type bulbs were so cheap that I have bought a bunch now. Still funny that the only places that sells them are agricultural suppliers ;)

So you have learnt something new and also saved money and work. Good result:clapping:

Yep, same as this monday with the starting trouble (another post) :) Learning by doing/reading!
