A bit knackered but still running

An old man came by few days ago to have piston rings fabricated for an old engine. Guess what was his ride?

I'm amazed that someone whose R4 looks so neglected on the outside is going to the trouble of rebuilding his engine...

Sorry for my English, he was not rebuilding the R4's engine but an old one cylinder petrol engine. He is a 74 year old car mechanic which makes things even weirder

It's probably along the lines of the mechanics car is always at the back of the queue!

I know a builder like that, he's so busy he's not had time to get his own house extension finished in the past 4 years!


Besides which he seems to run the car along my lines. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I love it. It must win the prize for the scruffiest 4L on the road, those rear lights are a gem, and the exhaust system,...it's so simple. A nice touch is the scorch marks on the wing were some welding has been done. Oh and the directional tyres on the front, on back to front. It's obviously an engineers' car.

What a gorgeous car - clearly a faithful companion, not to be 'put down' until it totally dies of its own accord. There's no 'DNR' on that one!

I honestly do not know how did he passed our MOT, few yeas back you could pass an MOT test without a car being present but now they have cameras which take pictures of the car.

But he did say that he has a lot of problems with the police when stopped

I believe there was a garage in the 60s down here in Cornwall that would simply listen to the car over the phone, and if it sounded okay it passed. But that might just be a bit of classic car folklore.:smile: We've moved on since then, but they don't take photos. I admire this gentleman though, and he must by now know all the local policemen by their first names. It is great to see that his old 4L is hanging on, and isn't ready yet to die.
