I hope its ok all at once but I have a few Qs
1)I have the zenith carb on my 84 4L is there a renov kit available.
2)Has anyone used a metal air filter like a K&N instead of the OEM.
3) What are the best parts of the body to jack the car up with trolley jack?
4)How simple/difficut a job is it to remove body from chassis, does the body distort once removed.
I have no 'visible' rot in the chassis, partly because it was owned by the french armee and its been undersealed and waxed but I would like to take the body off for my own sake if its fairly starightforward im a belt and braces guy.
I cant believe how small everything is I am used to my Merc Gwagen 4x4
I think its going to have a funky paint design eventually its crying out for it! Its too individual to be a straight biege or grey.
thats it for a bit:cool:

I can do 3 and 4:

3: I tend to jack under the outer sills. They provide strength to the very outer part of the floor and about 3 inches inboard (the outer sill is a 3 inch U section). A piece of wood is good for distributing the load. At the front the chassis members are good for jacking, but there's nowhere convenient at the rear apart from the rear chassis members, and they are inaccessible above spare wheels and fuel tanks etc.

4: It's a pain to remove the body as the original sealant between body and chassis sticks very well (photo attached). I'd tend to leave the body on unless it really needs to be removed for repairs, as the sealant is good for preventing rust too.

Go on, while I'm here I'll have a stab at 1 and 2:

1: I can't thing of anything that would wear on the carb apart from the throttle spindle, and I've never had any problems with those. My aproach is leave it alone if it works.

2: No idea if anyone has done this, but there's no point. The carb is the restriction in the R4 not the air filter. It's a tiny little thing fitted to improve economy and reduce power. Find a carb from an 1108 Renault 5 and bolt it on and you'll get an extra 10 horse power. A K&N should bolt on with no need for re-jetting. I can't see the air filter being a restriction even on the R5. Which suggests there's not a lot of point in fitting a K&N.
