Hi all,
Thought I should introduce myself.
My first ever car was a white 4 GTL that I affectionately referred to as 'Slim' (C388SLM). I managed to save up enough from night shifts at a supermarket to get it the year before going to university and kept it for the best part of 5 years, driving it all round the country whilst maintaining it as best I could.
I thought is was an absolutely fantasic car and wanted to briefly share some of my experiences, so here are a few things I've learnt about the GTL from my time with one:

Thought I should introduce myself.
My first ever car was a white 4 GTL that I affectionately referred to as 'Slim' (C388SLM). I managed to save up enough from night shifts at a supermarket to get it the year before going to university and kept it for the best part of 5 years, driving it all round the country whilst maintaining it as best I could.
I thought is was an absolutely fantasic car and wanted to briefly share some of my experiences, so here are a few things I've learnt about the GTL from my time with one:
- rotating the rear bench seat through 90 degrees, transforms the GTL into a 'cool' camper (or at least that's what I thought at the time),
- driving from the midlands to central london (through the blackwall tunnel), without a starter motor and thankfully without stalling in heavy traffic, certainly concentrates the mind (old starter failed and was removed, but the replacement from the breaker's didn't fit!)
- it is possible to fit a complete 600cc motorcycle into a GTL, by removing the front passenger and rear seats,
- I had always wondered why some cars had black wings and after performing a double replacement surgery myself, I now know,
- it is a very sad day when it fails the MOT due to rust and you realise that 1) you can't weld, and 2) you can't afford for someone else to!
