A question concerning parcel shelf models

I am looking for a parcel shelf for my R4L from 77's

What i know that it should be a shelf made of metal not a plastic one, and supported by the 2+2 nuts with rubber rollers on the both side rear wheel archs.

My rear seat is a pipe frame type.

Can i fit a parcel shelf to my car which is of type to be screwed to back of a padded seat?

The rear of the mountings is the same for the parcel shelves attached to the seat but you would need to remove the front mounting.

There are 2 types attached to the seat - a metal one and a later plastic one. I think they are both bolted to the sheet of metal normally on the back of the rear seat. If you don't have the metal sheet you might need to attach another mounting. The plastic ones have two rubber pads attached to the tailgate. The metal one might have a seal at the back.

I'm thinking about doing the same on my '67.

There was also a parcel shelf that was not attached to the seat at the front, but was held on 4 rubber rollers (instead of 2 rubbers at the rear + 2 hinges on the seat back). This one was fitted on the early Export models (65 to 68 maybe) and was an option.
This may be your best solution, I think it would be quite fiddly to adapt the tubular seat to accept the parcel shelf hinges.

rear parcel shelf

I got two local quotes here. one is covered with vinyl and onether is plain metal.

I am gonna give a shot to modify one of these.I think hinges will not fit, because they are located so far away from my vertical tubes.

What i could try is to make one additional support besides the existing ones of steel

there is also somekind of hole? in the middle towards boot lid, what is that for?

Something must had been changed in the past-the front seats or the rear one. It was not common to fit both types.

Is your R4 an L or a TL? Do the rear windows open? Or you can look at the second row of the oval plate number, if it starts with 43 it is a TL (conventional seats), if there is a 45 it's an L (tubular seats).

**HI!, neither of those, 1st row=R1123, 2nd row=41144, third=171127

parcel shelf mod done!

now i am halfway done, fixed 2nd supports for the 2nd row of rubber rollers, i took a drawing also for others if someone going to make alike mod for their R4's
Now i have to do some polishing and painting plus get new black vinyl or alike.
I think i could use the old edge tring but only to be painted/coloured to black with some shoe/leather paint.

Some photos for the most curious of y
