Advice on polishing a bonnet sought

Hi,

I got this bonnet that has the typical dull paint that all red Renault parts from the 70s and 80s seem to get.

The seller suggested polishing it with chromium polish, but I'd like to hear from more experienced guys what the best strategy might be to take this thing as far back to its former glory as possible.

What type of polish should I use? Should I use the polishing disc that can be fitted to an electric drill?

Thanks

Robert

I always use very fine wire wool 0000 and wd 40 On oxidised paint and do the whole car by hand! I then use old car paint restorer and then a wax polish, the Last stuff I bought was from wilkinsons.

This is not an R4 bonnet!
I can't see a single dent. ;)

Use Lackreiniger then Hartwachspolitur.

Cheers,

David

I like using Farecla G3 compound following by Autoglym for that sort of job. Works a treat in my experience.

I'd advise against using a polishing disc mounted on a drill though - drills are normally too fast and you can easily do far more damage that way. You can buy decent rotary mops / polishers though, just make sure you use plenty of water if you are using an abrasive compound on it.

@David ... if it helps I'll take a picture of the left hand front wing I bought with it. Plenty of scratches and dents there.

Thanks for your input folks, I'll see what the local shops have.

Robert
