ADVICE PLEASE ?

I have a problem with my speedo ..it has no speed needle and no needle on the battery volt meter, also not recording the milage on the odometer..........can I fit this older type I found on ebay which has no battery meter anyway but seems to be all there ? not sure if the wireing etc will be the same if I get the older type but I need one that only shows up to 130km per hour....Will I be ale to connect the speedo cable to the back or will there be an older type I will also need ??
ADVICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS IT ENDS IN 3 DAYS ON EBAY

I'm almost certain that the speedo cable is the same, the wiring I'm not sure, why not ask the e-bay seller to post a photo of the rear of the speedo?

Thanks Ian, its a good idea but that would only be helpful if I knew what mine looked like from the back and as its due to go back up for its MOT next week (again) I really didn't want to be pulling it out just at the moment ;)
 
It's straightforward to fit. There were two types of such instrument, one was associated with the early "round" gearbox, the other with the late gearbox. I suppose they have different internal gearing to match the gearbox speedo drive.

Thanks Angel but will it fit , is it worth buying ? or will the internal drives on the gearbox be different giving a false reading .............think I will just have to wait until I find one like mine :(
 
I think the gearing is the same for all speedo heads. I'm running an early one on a R5 gearbox. It is easy to swap the speedometer between displays if you find one with a different warning light layout.

Thanks for that Malcolm I think I will take a chance on it then, made an offer on it and will see if it is accepted ;)
 
well the offer was accepted then ...........the seller said he has a problem and cannot accept paypal and to transfer the money direct to his account ? scam ? poor feedback ? So no speedo head for me this time :( But thanks to all who offered advice and help, at least I know next time I see one, ............if I see one o_O
 
do you want me to send you the one ive got the whole assembly it should fit

Thank you for that, but will I get a true reading on the speed ? just your speedo shows up to 140kms/90mph and mine shows up to 130kms/80mph if this is no problem then yes please :)

Just measured the speedo cable on the car and its 147/8 cms long from where it leaves the gearbox to where it was behind the bulkhead, at the end ....ish :rolleyes:
 
..............and remember its a R4 I am restoring , I cant afford to restore an Aston Martin hahahaha :)

you said you were urgent thereforeyou know what it is worth two you and a sensible offer will reward you with a speedo head and a new cable
