File under Things you didn't know you never needed know.

All know the ESSO-name right?
all also knows the 'Put a Tiger on your tank'slogan right?

For years that tiger was ESSO's signature..
but where did it originate from????

Let me inform you (and now I'm sitting on my High horse
here)
It originated from NORWAY.
Don't believe me you say....

early on last century there were a small store selling gazoline/kerosene in or around Bergen.Growing into a
bigger marked made them start TIGER BENZIN which in turn was bought up by S.O (Standard Oil = ESSO) which
took TIGER BENZIN's 'logo' -originally a tiger leaping over an oil- barrel and used it all over the world....

Somewhere around here I have a very nice old enamel animal-sign with a very elongated or anomal tiger on it..

So-How's that for useless info you never knew you didn't need to know eh?

La Poste once said that he once tried to put a tiger in his tank but couldn't get the filler cap back on because the tail stuck out. Very interesting to hear how the slogan originated - I'd not known of the earlier Norwegian oil store.

This is exactly why those petrol-anti-theft coils you placed into the spout of tank is NOT recommended by ESSO.

Coil will just foul up the tail.
(guess La Poste had such a devize installed)

..More Tiger news?

..Looks like this one is on its way out of the tank!!
