Hi all, well my youngest son decided that he wanted a R4 so anyway we found one for him, he's had it a couple of months with absolutely no problems ( well one failed MOT because rear fog light on wrong side ) and he thinks it's great, anyway walked into the drive the other day to my surprise the rear offside wheel was at an angle ( see pictures ) first of all thought he cornered to fast and hit the kerb but no ( no marks on the wheel ) turns out the rear suspension arm has tinworm, so repairs had to be done temporarily until i refurb another axle.
It's probably not the neatest welding but i'm still at the novice stage as yet and iv'e not had a mig for very long either. comments anyone ?

You see that a lot if you look through a lot of leboncoin ads. However your still expected to pay around 400e for a good car with a broken arm.

As I see you have snow. Was he doing handbrake turns.

As I'm doing the same when we have snow on the road. And R4 is also my first car (both of us are quite young)?
Something similar happened to my friend as he was doing handbrake turn and was drifter out to dry asphalt.

Ive seen it

Those later pressed steel arms do not seem to last well.

I think the best solution is to replace it with a cast rear axle from another car.

Whilst you are at it you can repair any corrosion issues with the rear chassis arms and axle location points.

All in a weekends work for a fit pair of lads.

Yes we have snow but not that much really, no he was'nt doing handbrake turns ( yet anyway ) but it only a matter of time.

Yes we are going to replace it with the solid beam once the weather gets better, the underneath is all good fortunately ( it's a 1992 Savane Left hand drive ) it was owned by a family who had a house in France and the UK and was serviced in France and the UK.
