Backfiring...AGAIN!

My beloved 4GTL has recently had a new fuel pump, plugs, cables etc replaced because it was backfiring and spluttering. Just a few weeks down the line and I'm having the same problem. The breather tube was split and repaired, so I'm looking to replace that this week but just wondering if anyone has any advice. Thankyou.

Just wee suggestion, check that the screw that secures your points to the base plate in the distributer is tight cos over time and many replacement points the base plate thread that the screw goes into gets worn and eventually strips.

Hi Krissy, my car used to backfire when I went down a hill and took my foot off the accelerator. She also wouldn't idle properly and started cutting out at traffic lights.
Eventually I discovered that the bolts holding the carb to the manifold were loose, causing an air leak. There's also a gasket there that you could have a look at; it might be broken
Good luck
