Having rebuilt a good part of my engine, including skimmed head and new gasket, new starter motor, waterpump, fuel pump and refurbished carburetor, I discover today that my wife's uncle has two brand new 1098 engines sat on a shelf in one of his barns. Zero hours.

Some have alternators and starter motors, but I know that one has been robbed of both. All have carburetors and manifolds. They do not have clutches, nor clutch housings or the air filter. These engines were spares for a grass mower built by Ransomes for the French market. They are in immaculate as new condition.

They are for sale. Probably between £75.00 and £150.00 depending on the ancillaries. (A new starter cost me £125, and I bet an alternator will be in the same region.

If you are interested please send me a private message.

Are these engines equivalent to the standard 4GTL engine ?? i.e. would they drop straight in with a new gearbox and clutch.

Hi Tripyrenees.

Just seen you query. The answer is yes, but need to swop manifolds and camshaft drive housing after removing drive off the cam drive cog that sits on the end of the crank. What is also needed is.... the plate at the front of the engine that the clutch housing and stater bolt onto. Otherwise as the same. Dusty, and the rocker covers are a little rusty. Have original plastic inserts still in the water pipes and carburetor inlet. Only oil in them is the preserving oil, so will require an oil 'change'.

You are in the Pyrenees? East or West. How near Catalunya? I'm probably going to bring one out for my battered old F6. I'm near Tarragona.
