Best place to put a fag lighter socket

Anyone any suggestions as to the best place to put a fag lighter socket on or under the dash on a GTL, I was thinking of just under the clock housing and perhaps wiring it into the clock wiring. Need it for the SATNAV for madame - geography etc not her strong point and sometimes she needs to be able to get from one clients house to another without wasting too much time without me there to drive and or issue instructions. :)

Be careful to check what's behind before installing a lighter socket. I once drilled a big hole then found the windscreen wiper was in the way.

It would be nicer to screw a bracket under the dash so the holes aren't visible. These are classic cars these days, and replacement dashboards aren't available as far as I know.

Strike A Light! Where are We?

Bonsoir Paul et Pat, Fire up 'Google' and go to the uk 'Argos' website and look at catalogue item 038/2247 (12v quad lighter adaptor - car accessories). I am lost without soothing 'Nancy' - the Tom Tom Lady (did'nt fancy Ozzie Osborne). This chunky gizmo (or similar) is nice and broad and I was going to invert it and fix it (d-sided tape/glue velcro pads) under the driver's side parcel shelf (flat surface to flat surface). The power lead is nice and long (cut off male socket + 4" cable for future use)to reach/route to the radio power lead (already fused) connecter hidden under the dash on gtl's - see Mr Haynes/R4 User handbook - can't remember which, but it's colour/location is definately mentioned.
This fitting is fine for low power use - not fags (buy a box of matches/rub two boy scouts together). This was my cunning/subtle/discreet solution to keep Nancy employed. :)

Will have a squint at that, but Argos don't trade here! It always seems a bizarre concept to me, going into a shop, ordering from a catalogue, then waiting in a queue while some spotty herbert goes and fetches it from out the back, you might as well buy it on Ebay and let the postman do the work!

Just found the same thing for £3-99 on fleabay - £12-69 in Argos.
In the spirit of recycling I had intended to recycle one that is residng under the dash of a C*****n Ami 8 that I have just flogged to a bloke in the UK!

Well Done

Bon nuit PaulandPat, I used Argos cat - 1 picture is worth 1'000 words ;). Nothing 'ami' with those mk VIII 'super dysons' - but light years ahead of the 2cv. I used a nippy 2door mini Honda N600 'buzzbomb' in those days (it used/dripped more oil than petrol) until the bonnet flew/blew off . :)

Remembered I had one of those triple socket thingies, found it and secured it to the side of the radio housing with a nice long cable tie through the slots in the side, wired it into the radio, nice temporary / permanent bodge with no extra holes made.
Even discovered that the clock has got a light in it and changed the bulb, will have to take it out after dark now to see if the new one works!:)
