Being in Caen at the moment, having spent our first days of vacation rummaging through various scrap-yards in the area while wife let loose with card fully loaded with 45mm ammo.. :(

I've asked around for a Renault 5TS or pref a 5TX-motor 1397cc with a 5-speed gearbox (longue) from a 5Gtl .I've heard a lot of Oh-La-las! Impossibles, several Tres difficiles etc. all accompanied by highly rised eyebrows...and a certain blank look in the eyes.....Are they REALLY this hard to locate?

Any/all members on here -especially our allies in France, requested to come forward ,Tout suite would be
very welcome c",)
-I've spotted 5 Quatrelles en-route,all waved at and cheerd on,I've stuck on Renault 4L badges covering the sad volvo-markings on this mission so the ones in-the-know will know I'm doing some covert ops.
down here..

There's the 7.eme edition Retrofestival of Caen this coming week-end (28-29 Juin) but my sources have not dug up any clear intel if there will be parts and pieces on sale there-Anybody know??

Info/tip leading to locating above will result in Calvados all round the table...

If you're in the vicinity why not "call in" so we could have a tribal-meet??

Amicalement/-Reid.

Pick up a copy of Gazoline magazine, they list all the shows / autojumbles etc in the country - always worth a look to see what might be local. Might not be much but always worth a try.

Incidentally, I was in France yesterday and not a single quatrelle or Mk1 R5 was spotted :(

Hi there Lobster! I've got Gazoline/La vie de L'automobile and Retro Collection.Nothing in there this time-
but yes, a good tip....
LeBonCoin I've given up on even my good french buddy down Montpellier doesn't get a reply from sellers,
so why bother with it?? Delete-delete-delete...

-Reid.

Phoning people from Le bon coin seems to be the only reasonable way of. Contacting them!

Hmmm-tempting! that would be the TS-motor right? Do you remember the engine-code? -and the 5sp.gearbox would bethe Long one right? Code?
Is it all complete w.starter/carb/alternator/water and gas-pump etc?

-I've got a TX 1400-motor spoken-for,for when I get home, thinks it sounds Very promising as seller Really knows his Renaults, but as they are not eating much I wouldn't mind having two sitting around untill needed . Can I get back to you on it a bit later?
Oh yes-and Thanx for offer/-Reid.

Engine is gtl spec single carb
box should be high ratio as i fitted engine to 1108 r5 attached photo of my parts over flow store

quite a pile there -and a nice on at that! yes-codes would be very useful for me..

-haven't heard back from the g.box-seller down south..he may be reluctant shipping it to someone he's never met-even if paying b4hand.
Do we have anyone from around Uchaux approx.100km's NE of Montpellier on here?? Anyone?? AT ALL??

(Looks I could need assistance getting the gearbox picked up (looks clean as a whistle) packed/delivered to a transporting-co & sent to a depot
somewhere nearer Nord Pas de Calais/Normandy/or Haute Marne area. I'll of course pay up front and cover tr.costs &then some via PayPal or Iban/Bic...)

"Back in Caen today, arriving at the hotel I saw this little O-L-D Lady driving her offwhite 4L complete with roof-rack, a proper nice rack at that complete with
wood-trimmings and suction-cups onto the roof...Into her concrete 2-winged door garage at the back of our hotel (Vive La Difference !!)
Made my day she did-and she doesn't even know it.
thought about running down to say Hi,but would probably have scared her stiff and me ended up spending next 2yr's up the river ."

two nice Quatrelles sighted One 4L and another F6 all other cars on display were mundane Ferraris/Jaaaags/Cadillacs/Mustangs etc..c",)
Some very nice sidecar-racers Triumphs,a Tribsa and a cute Motobecane complete with Marzocci's plus some Beemers and a real rare bird
(not sidecar-racer) but made in Denmark NIMBUS logitudal 4-in line
box-frame,east/west kickstart pedal, cardan and open valves...
En-route S. by now, Only hope the gearbox-guy will be there tomorrow.....Another 4gtl spotted on our
way today which (kind of) gives me renewed hope for Le Republic and their selfclaimed Bon taste -R.

NEWSFLASH.....5-speed gearbox now safely tucked away in the volvort..Finally found the place of the seller, far out in the boondocks, lots of cows and other
furry livestock
not a living soul to ask,and no housenumbers-and he lived in No. 3715 so lost count early, had gone past his house twice, then a sight for sore eyes suddenly
popped up in the distance in my rear-mirror ,now there's a Proper car I says to the wife, stopped and waited for him, gave a signal and first he said when
stopped was; Mr.B ?? turned out he had a several motors, gearboxes, rims of all kinds and in addition to his F6 an original Teilhol plus a very nice Citroen Acadiane
and a Traction-Avant Familiale in really-really original good solid nick... Got his details and talked some about the Acadiane............. dare I say I might be going
over to the dark side if things go my way? Always nice with some on the side ,or so I've heard...........
Silly volvert lit the engine-management-light so prompt action were taken,a big dollop of gum placed over the light so all's ok by now -R.

am picking up a NOS Chromed front-bumper tomorrow still in wrapped paper ..Made in France and all! €85 doesn't even seem half bad..will varnish the rear-side of it
as no-one will see the chrome there anyways, just makes it withstand rust that much better.. -R.

Rub some grease on the rear side it helps keep the water out....any big difference in Temperature will cause expansion / contraction and might split the varnish, even a slight bump will crack it and allow water to creep in with capillary action ;)

thought I'd go one step further and paint the rear-side plus edges with silver Hammerite which I find unbeatable when it comes to adherance and durability
plus it withstands rust very-very good... -R.
