..However unbelievable it may be, it seems to have happened again... England v Germany..

I would suggest that this time it is our turn to win as we havent done so since 1966 and every time we have a World Cup competition, all the pundits mention that 'This time, we have the best chance of winning the World Cup since 1966' and we are all getting fed up with that fact!!

So Robert und alles - On Sunday, put on your Cross of St George shirts, raise our flag, blow your Vuvuzela and shout 'England for the Cup' !!

Hi Ian, I think I'll fly the Bavarian flag which is about as neutral as Switzerland ever was, and I'll keep away from any television screen as I have always done when football was on.
Next, you'll send over a delegation to the Oktoberfest, and we'll celebrate whoever has won.
I hope this salomonic judgement is in the best of everybody's interest ;)

Robert und alles

Congratulations. On the day you were a better side. Good luck in the final Rounds.

We'll meet again in 2014, I hope .

Ian was right... it WAS our turn. But nobody told our team or the officials. ;)

C'est la vie as our French chums say.

Back to the Quatrelle :D

Thanks for the kudos ... I'll tell "und alles" ;)
I must confess that while I didn't watch the match I was pretty much informed as the vuvzelas in the gardens around ours told me when to look at the live stream on the computer.
Well, you took it sportsmanlike - so good luck next time.

Celery, as the French say.

Robert

Of course we are rooting for the German team now. If they win then it proves that we would have been second (which isn't too bad) :D

We had a nice BBQ yesterday afternoon with an extension lead powering a portable television. I joined in for the second half, and stayed until the end of the cricket. Good result in that against the Aussies.

Must confess I have not watched a football match on the TV for probably over 20 years, but 4-1 sounds as if we were lucky to come second!
The best definition of the World Cup I've heard so far - '22 millionaires ruining a lawn'.

The streets were very quiet during the match - would have been a good time for a drive!

Malcolm - any more thoughts on a summer 'R4BQ' (Renault 4 BBQ)?

It was an awful match to watch!

We had all been sat around my Father in Laws telly as his house is next to the field where they hold the Bloxham vehicle rally, so on the Sunday afternoon we all go down, have a picnic and watch all the cars departing, it makes a lovely family day and we have a great time. During the first half we were all packed into the living room, by half way through the second half there were only two of left in there, everyone else was watching the far more interesting spectacle of all the vehicles leaving!
