can someone help

ive just bought a renault kangoo van
but there seams to be a bit missing on the engine
it runs fine but seams sluggish
the part im on about comes from the throttle down a black pipe
and into a box but its sponge looks like something is missing

anso on the back of the engine there is a plug missing on the passengers side think its brown what does this do
can someone help
