Hi Guy's

need some advise on carb set up, i have searched but my question relates to mixture. i couldn't find the answer i was looking for so here i am..

not sure what carb i have yet, but i have a r4 gtl year is 1988 and its left hand drive.
the paperwork i have say's its 1108cc

my question is: I found this answer in the similar posts below, my bad did not no they were there.
does the mixture screwing in (clockwise) richen or weaken the mixture. as i want to see if i can lean it off a bit at a time to get the bet out of her.

when i received the car it was revving around 2000 rpm at a guess and the idle screw was at its minimum, the mixture was 3.5 turns out, so have set that to 1.5 turn out. the result is a better idle speed.

also i have set the timing up atm to centre as suggested for running leaded fuel. please correct me if thats wrong.
it was a game of cat and mouse adjusting the distributor and idle to line it up, but after a trip the the courier up some good hills i heard no pinking.

from what i've read i need to clean and check the ignition system too.

thanks very much in advance for ideas and suggestions, and sorry for this long post.

1 more thing, it does rev on a little before dropping down to idle. is that normal for the r4?

It could be as simple as the linkages for the throttle and/or choke needing a clean and lube, my choke occasionally sticks a little and a drop or two of bicycle chain lube sorts it. Try pushing the throttle linkage to see if it's closing properly.

Hi Moth, just reading your post and saw you live in Portugal, I live down on the Eastern Algarve near Tavira. Sorry I cannot help you with your problem at the moment as I only picked up my 4 GTL yesterday, but give me a few days to get my head around it and I will try and help. If you PM me and we might be able to get together and help each other out.
Regards Threelabs

Hi Guys. not been on here for a while. it turned out my main problem was the carb was warped on the base where it sits on the gasket. after filing it flat it runs a lot better.

the issue i now have is a slight fuel leak on the throttle shaft that goes through the carb.

apart from that all is ok.
