Carburetor expert - twin barrel carb legal?

Hi,

I need a list of carburetors fitted by Renault - I have found Solex 26 DIS and Zenith 28 IF, but are there any more?

Here's the background - I now live in France, and had to officiate (scrutineering amongst other roles) at a Renault 4L meeting (our local fete - similar to grasstrack in UK).

We had a list of engine block numbers which was good, but no carburetor specs.

One driver had a twin barrel carburetor and claimed it was legal (others said no). It did look as if it had been there for a long time, and the inlet manifold didnt look unusual, but did Renault ever fit this to a factory produced car - or does anyone have an idea where a twin barrel carb could have been sourced from (as a straight fit - the inlet manifold looked cast, not pipe and weld)?

They are racing again on the 15/8 and I'd like to be able to tell them the full story, but I just cant find a detailed carburetor spec list on the net.

Many thanks all

Ant

probably renault 5ts/tx carb and manifold ,bolts straight on 1108/956 5 bearing engines

best check engine number as should be 688or C1E for 1108 cant remember 956cc code as not uk spec
810 =1289cc r5 mk1
847or C2j =1397 r5 mk1 later ts /tx
ask me more if you need to as they may be cheating

Carburettors fitted:

Zenith 28 IF (manual choke) all 845s and 1108s after 1979 - 28 IFE (electrical choke) early '60s.
Solex 22DIS-DITS (either manual or electric choke) very early 747cc.
Solex 26 DIS (747,782 cc)
Solex 32 EISA/SEIA (845cc 1971 onwards, mostly on export R4s,also early 1108cc).
Zenith 32IF7 (845cc 1984-86).
Solex 32 DIS (not originally fitted but permitted on the FIA homologation papers for the 1108cc)
Solex 28 IBS fitted to some Spanish 852cc.

These were the standard equipment, but other may well have been fitted depending on the country of manufacture and destination. Some export R4s had been fitted with Dell'Orto carburettors. Other high altitude equipments had been fitted with altitude correctors, the base carburettor being usually a Zenith 28IF or Solex 32EISA.

956cc engine code is C1C. There must be another post about other engine codes, I don't want to be tiring re-posting again...

Thanks

Many thanks Mr Reno and Angel.

I'll hand the list to the 'chef' of the 4L's and also have a word with the driver.

We have a list of engine numbers, and I was tipped off to look for Renault 5 blocks, but I didnt realise that the R5 carb would fit so well onto a R4 block.

We live and learn - once again many thanks.

I must add that a R4 engine plate will fit very well on a R5 block...
