Hi All

I was wondering if anyone knows whether all the chassis are the same for the 4TL/4GTL/4F4 Van/4F6 Van. As I would like to find a donor vehicle with good chassis to use for my F4 Van.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Berline and f4 share the same chassis, while f6 ones are a bit longer and not interchangeable.

Hi

Thank you for the reply Azazello. To be more specific, as I have a donor vehicle in mind. Would a Renault 4F4 van body bolt onto a Renault 4GTL chassis? Has anyone experience of doing such a chassis/body transplant?

Any information would be greatly received.

Best Regards

Don't see why it wouldn't fit. An early F4 (or early saloon) prior to is it 1973 might have parts on the body that foul the rear extensions but they can be removed. Check out DVLA rules on body swaps before deciding what to do about chassis numbers.

Melun Retro Passion do a brand new chassis - http://www.melun-retro-passion.com/...zinguee-transport-sur-devis-id-CHASSIS4L.html for about £1375. Eyeing up a full length roof rack on an F4 it would only take a couple of props from the front bumper to be able to carry a chassis....

Hi Malcom

Thank you for the reply and the advice. Looking at the Haynes manual, I can see there are appox 20 body to chassis fixing bolts. If these are unbolted, the relevant front wing and inner wing bolts removed and various cables and components which pass through the bulkhead disconnected, will the body be able to be lifted off or is this wishful thinking on my part and there would be a lot more to it? In addition, would it be feasible to run an F4 on the existing suspension and brake system on the 4GTL chassis?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

It's not a so difficult job to lift body from chassis, and can be done with engine in place.
The f4 has bigger torsion bar, I think, than berline and has rear antiroll bar. On the gtl suspension it will be more sensible to loads and wind.

I believe there are 23 bolts that holds body to chassis plus butil rubber all around.

Have exact number and position of bolts in my "black book". Will post picture later.

It is easier to remove front inner and outer wing before removing body.
You need to dismantle brake line, steering column, separate wiring loom and washer pipe, front seat belts. Rest can be left on chassis

After removing bolts I have lift whole car left it hang from ceiling of garage. Tomorrow morning i got two parts

I used a hot air gun and warmed up joints
Used a block of wood and lifted rear boot floor crossmember with trolley jack
Until rear wheels just off ground

Picture from notebook.
Dots are position of bolts.

23 in total

After removing all bolts-I was able to squeeze an innertube between frame and body -first at rear then at front.Inflating this
It just went POP! -R.
