i cant get the engine to idle as sonn as revs come down it cuts out
have thorughly cleaned all carburettor jets and checked compression
this is ok
it has a solex carb with no provision for adjustment of m ixture only throttle adjustment
i am at a loss on what to do next
any ideas PLEASE
Thanks Andy

Andy,
Sounds like it mght be an air leak on the inlet side somewhere, assuming you've checked the ignition side of things. My 2CV had the same problem, someone had left the gasket between the carb and manifold out.
Alan.

Hi Andy, Bison's point may well be true. The 'gasket' he's referring to is about 8mm thick and made of bakelite but they can crack which you can't see until you take the carb off, giving the same effect.

I'd also say its worth replacing all the ignition components too on a 2cv engine as points especially cause all sorts of mischief when worn (though usually worn points will make the engine hard to start as well). Ensure the timing of the points is spot on (it has to be set each time you change the points). Really old hard ht leads can also cause grief. You may well have changed all these bits as part of the rebuild. If this doesn't help have a look at the International 2cv friends forum where every possible issue with 2cv's is covered in the technical area...

Good Luck!
