Hi Boys and Girls,

so far my valve job (lapping and cleaning) had gone quite nicely, I did however use some power tools on the head side of the seal to remove carbon deposits etc…..wont do that next time but it is my first HEAD JOB. anyway I trust things will go smoothly and have now purchased head gasket and wanted some feedback on cleaning the head deck.

I notice what seems to be deposits left from using tap water in the cooling system around the cylinder wall blocking the water channels around the cylinder. I guess this could contribute to engine heating? anyway, i just wanted to know how you "EXPERTS" might go about cleaning this and avoiding debris from falling into the block….and don't worry, my power tools phase is over!

:)

current state of deck (please help as ti what i should do to clean debris around cylinders!)

lastly is it easy to reinstall the 8 bars that protrude from the block (supposed to connect to rocker shaft) ?

ok well everything is back in and after realizing the distributor is 1-3-4-2, she's up and running. just need a little adjust on the idle speed…but wait i hear a popping pinging sound!!!! what could that be?

the friend I'm with thinks its the condenser but i put a new one two months ago……any ideas?

Timing ok? Correct valve adjustment?

i think i will open her up again to ensure i correctly lapped the valves in cylinder 1 (the closest to the crank) because I'm hearing a pinging noise and after 5 km driving this spark plus fouled and after inspection was oily.
'any other suggestions?
