Good evening everybody

I was going home from my moms today (120 km) driving on the highway at app. 90-105 km/h.

It's an '83 850 engine, and I use a lead substitute for highway runs.

After a test-stint at 105 km/h the cooling warning light came on and off and flickered. Would that be normal after 100 km of driving and a short burst at "high" speeds? This fall I am going to flush the coolant as it has been in the system for over 15000 km. There was nothing to see in the expansion bottle, but it dips below the min mark sometimes even after refilling.

There are no visible leaks, and no white smoke from the exhaust (other that at startup).

Another question: When having the valvecover off, and the gasket replaced, how hard do you tighten the 'finger-screws' ? It seems that mine is leaking a bit of oil now after a valve-check and gasked replacement.

How can you know if the sensor is accurate
As it's designed to come on at 105 degrees
It may be faulty and coming on at 95
If you remove it and connect the body of sensor and the terminal to an ohms meter with The aid of thermometer in a saucepan of water heated til it boils
It may or may not be worth fitting new sensor
R4 with electric fans easier to leave engine idling and monitor sensor on head with infra red hand held thermometer
845 mechanical fan is theoretically capable of losing heat faster than engine can create it
All being well with radiator thermostat and pump(unlikely )it shouldn't go higher than 95 c
