Hi everybody, I'm devastated. Last night some bastards decided it would be funny to push my Ren 4 onto it's side on the road and pavement outside my house. As a result it has sustained some damage to the roof as it hit the windowsill of the house opposite. I rang my ins co this morning to be told that they would have to write it off as it has structural damage and is therefore not safe to drive. I am so upset I bought the car from Tony Elkins in Portsmouth. It's a beautiful car. My auntie who died last year left me a bit of money to buy myself a car and as I loved them this is what I got. My brother who died in a car accident 20 years ago also had a LHD model which I inherited when he died, this was written off by someone who hit me on a roundabout and the damage was fairly serious.
This is more than just a car as you can imagine. What do I do?? advice needed please

Tell them you buy it back from them, do NOT let them take it away, do not accept their first or even second offer for the value of the car if you're not happy with the offer either!

The body is separate to the chassis so isn't that structural and can be easily repaired!

200-300 quid will be about ball park .

Sorry to hear that moonpie. That is awful. Whoever did that is a jerk. They will get their comeuppance. Pepper's advice is pretty solid. Insurance company will know nothing about your car. You tell them what's going to happen.

like pepper said, don't let them take it away, you are entitled to buy it back, try talk to assessor and see if he will rate it a cat "d" as this is the best category for re-instating an insurance write off-no inspections are needed. hope you are back on the road soon!

Thanks for your advice. I'm so upset about it. I have someone coming out on Monday to assess it from a Renault Garage via the ins co. I won't let them take it away don't worry. I will go and get some photo's for you all to see. I don't think it's bad at all but I suppose they just see an old car.
It's ok to drive and amazingly the side that landed on the pavement isn't damaged at all not even the wing mirror.

this is the about the fourth R4 i read about being rolled over by some ape like creatures. She doesn't look too bad and hope they send an old boy out for you instead of some young kid who needs a computer to tell him whats wrong with the car.

very sad to hear and hope you had it covered on classic car insurance with agreed value because that damage should be easily repairable by a competent body shop

Crikes, by the way you were talking I was expecting the windscreen frame to be smashed up and having to sort out a new screen for it.
It won't take much to get that sorted at all.

Do not let them take it away!

Let them either get it repaired or write it off as a cat D and then you buy it back and get it repaired privately.

I was expecting much worse situation. You are lucky guy!

It can be easily fixed!
With good car body mechanic you could even get away without painting the roof

Many local owners of R4 would not even bother with dents like these. I am not one of them!

I have seen R4's in worse shape that are still driving here in Vodice (Croatia)

You might be better off not even claiming- the damage looks less than what a likely excess will be. The car looks perfectly safe, it is non structural damage. Don't let the insurance co write it off. I would be surprised if they did, it would cost them money. The dent at the front of the roof on the LH side of the aerial will likely pop out with heavy hand pressure from the inside, leaving only a crease in one corner. If it is properly panel beaten it will come out entirely. Likewise, the dent in the centre will come out if the creased/scuffed bit on the lower side of the picture is attended to.
