can anyone tell me the tightning sequence for the cylendar head bolts and what presure they have to be tightened to on the renult 4 1108cc engine for 1984  :

Daisy, maybe a Haynes manual would be a good investment. There's a picture of the tightening sequence in there but loads of other useful info.

hi
thanks, the local motor places dont seem to have any,i managed to find a second hand autobook for daisy in a secound hand shop in scaborough about
10 years ago i am just looking at it now,and it gives the tightning sequence and for all the engines it covers,r4 1961-65,r4l 747cc 1961-63,r4l 845cc 1963-65 and r4 1963-74.
in the technical data it gives 45lb also for all the above cylender head bolts.
do you think it safe to asume the same goes for daists bolts.
i found the book after i had posted my question.i had put in a safe place until i needed it,then forgot where it was

You can normally pick up Haynes manuals from eBay, though be careful to pick one up that goes to 1986 or includes the 1128. Most of the manuals on there are early ones. (Lots of MR61 factory manuals on there just now - fantastic for anyone with an earlier car).

We don't tend to answer posts where the manual would cover the answer, but since you are special - torque sequence the middle two bolts first, then work outwards. Manual suggests 44lbft.

Are you filling the system from the radiator rather than from the expansion bottle and then bleeding (that would be the right way). Lot of people seem to do it different ways which leads to overheating.

thank you, you have made an old lady (and daisy) very Happy i can now have a good nights sleep and tomorrow, daisy will be taken out or intensive care and put on the road to recovery (or the one outside the garden)thanks again:D :D :D :D
