I need some support, technical details for R4 rebuilt, which my father owns since ‘72 years.
I have searched and collected lots of information but some of them say opposite facts.
I’m reading your side time-by-time, and saw this lovely ‘R4 Gordini ‘ project.
I decided also buy Alpine 1,4 engine, which I don’t know anything.

Before I start to buy all the parts need to know some details. Please drop me some info about;

- Can be used a alpine turbo engine block + turbo cylinder head without a turbo ?
- What is a different between a turbo and atmo. cylinder head? and block?
- Can I be cheated at bueing a single block + main axle as Alpine and I get a simple R4 1,4cm2 internal parts (like main axle) ? -- Is this possible to fit a normal R4 engine’s main axle into the Alpine block?
- Which parts I need to really care at trade?
Transmission;
- I saw here Alpine engine combined with normal R4 transmitter, how does it work? Lot different?

Thanks a lot read my mail, and appreciate your answers, even if you pick some question only. :D

As far as I am aware, your Alpine engine bolts straight onto a GTL 1108 gearbox no problems.

Makes life very easy.

Unsure about compression ratios though is you are lucky it is just a thick head gasket.

Malcolm might know.

Thanks for gearbox idea !
I heard 1,7 mm special made thick head gasket can help for atmo to use turbo head.
