I have a 1985 850 R4. It has the B1BD7 engine with a Ducellier R287 D83 distributor. The diaphragm in the vacuum advance unit has failed. Does anyone on this forum have a spare please. (or know where they can be obtained?)
Many thanks

I live in Denmark and my R4 'dealer' has them and loads of other stuff (2000m2 spares), at a low price usually.
I know that he deals with foreigners too, so english should be possible to speak/write.

Contact form and telephone number is at: http://www.renaultdele.dk/10-kontakt_os.htm

Thanks Niels. I have managed to get a used one from a scrap R5. I'll look at the site as I'd like to get a new one.

Isn't it easier og faster at franzose.de or a french dealer if you are situated in France? The guy i mentioned is just very fair with his prices and a really nice man :) - And cool with a grand beard, an irish wolfhound as guard-dog, an allover zink-treated R4 and a rare morgan le mans in the garage ;) - Worth a visit if your ever in Denmark

I have fitted the second hand vacuum advance unit to my distributor. I also fitted an electronic ignition unit to replace the points and the car is running well, having set the timing with a strobe. The vacuum advance is working now.
Does anyone know how much advance the vacuum unit should give? I have set the small toothed cam to the original setting but of course it is not the original vacuum unit.
It is a R287 (centrifugal advance) D83 (vacuum advance) Ducellier distributor.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have borrowed a strobe to set the timing and need to return it. Has anyone any idea on the vacuum advance setting please?

I'm playing around with mine at the moment, having swapped carb, intake manifold and distributor with R5, along with electronic ignition. The Ducellier I'm using is of unknown origin and mileage, even thought to be non-functional, so I guess it's worth messing with. Thus far, if I move it one direction - I'm not happy with the results...then I move it the other direction, and I'm equally unhappy.
What I'm trying to accomplish is to gain lower-end advance, since I only get a slight pinging at WOT and top speed. I'll fiddle with it some more, along with the mechanical advance springs, and see what happens.

Update: I got everything else set right, and then moved the little toothed vacuum adjuster even further and voila - I like it. It is now set about 3/4 of the way around clockwise, meaning that it is set for 'easy' advance at about the 2o'clock position...if that makes any sense. It never ran better :)
