DVLA records

Hi
Does anybody know how to gain access to the DVLA vehicle records...the ones that tell you if a particular car or type is still on the files?
People are always quoting numbers of cars left ect and I would love to be able to find out if a few old 4 wheel friends still show up ...

Go to http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/index.jsp Click on 'Vehicle Enquiry' and type in the registration number and you will find out if cars have been scrapped, on SORN etc.
