I just 'lifted the lid' on my GTL and this is what I can see. Any advise from members that have repaired this sort of thing would be greatly appreciated.

Richard, this is a fairly straightforward job for a competent welder. This area is double skinned because of the extra strength needed for the jacking point. Have you checked the rest of the chassis as well for corrosion? - particularly the rear end. As you have gone this far by unbolting the body, you may as well lift it right off and do all welding jobs in one go.

Have you seen the chassis welding page (with this repair towards the bottom of the page). I replaced the double skin with a thicker single skin on mine. Main thing is to cut out the rot before welding new steel in.

Can I plug the MIG welding guide in case you need any help with welding.

Thanks

Thanks guys, yes there is some more rot on the box section forming the engine mounts, but the rear suspension mounts look ok. If I find the reason for this I will post.?parked for long periods with the nose downhill!!

Renault did used to list the complete front end of the chassis. I think that once rust has got a hold of this area it's time to think carefully about whether it's worth patching it up every year or so. There is so many double skinned parts in the front chassis that it would be easier to weld on a complete new section but you need to very competent to do so.
