Since I have to begin doing some maintenance to my sitting engine before refitting, I was seriously thinking about buying one of those cheap engine stands you can fine on ebay for 50 euros or around.
My question is: where do I attach the stand plate to the engine?
A friend told me the right place should be on the block side under the manifold, while te online tutorials suggest to attach from the gearbox end, using the bell mountings holes...
If the last option turns out to be right, do I have to take away the volano?

I used the bell mountings while doing all my engines

The volano depends on the stand . If the arms are long enough to get around it than no. but it is advisable to unmount it if you are for example going to change oil pan seal

The 850 fits nicely on most stands by using the bellhousing studs. The flywheel is being removed from below anyway, after removing the sump, so the mounting stand should not be in the way.
