Engine swap 845 to GTL1100

Hi I've been offered a very low mileage 1984 GTL 1100 motor and gearbox. I'm very tempted to swap it for my rather tired and much more high mileage 1984 845. Is it a straightforward swap? Thanks for any advice. George

The Cleon engine with the right gearbox and bellhouse is most important.
Engine supports are different.
The gear lever might be different if you hadn´t a 354/HA0 gearbox.
The manifold connection to exhaust is different.
The radiator is different and mounted on the front.
Some supports are different.

Otherwise it could be a pretty doable straight forward job.

Thank you, I wondered if it is possible to retain the radiator in its original position and just add a 'push' electric fan? I really want to try and retain the original look with the larger engine.

I did a conversion 30 years ago and used all GTL parts. Problem with that is I had to remove the bonnet reinforcements to clear the radiator and that made the bonnet a bit floppy. For right hand drive cars the fuel pump fouled the handbrake but that shouldn't be a problem with left hand drive.

I took a couple of pictures. It looks like the 1100 engine will fit behind the 850 radiator but maybe you would need to use a pusher fan. Angles in the photos are a bit different but looks like you would have 20mm clearance.

Malcolm thats brilliant, thank you. I've just posted the same question on the Renault 4L FB forum

I think that in 1983 they unified the bonnets and they put the later style one even on 845cc engined cars, so it won't be necessary to change it.
The 845 radiator can be kept - you have to be creative with the hoses - but it's too small for the Cleon engine. If you fit the Cleon radiator, you have to fit the crossmemeber that supports the radiator and front gearshift lever bush.
You will also have to do something with the exhaust, as the 845 silencer is too restrictive. The best solution would be to fit the larger underwing silencer as fitted on Fourgonettes.
