evenin' I am new to this forum and am in the process of buying a 1971 estefette van with the 1289cc engine. I dont expect the van to be that quick but wondered if there was a more powerful engine, eg renault 5 that would fit 'straight in'. i dont want to drive fast just a little more bhp to get me around more comfortably in modern traffic. thanks, Ian

IF it s the same block etc., as a R5 ? you could change the distributor and carb, poss manifold as well for a R5ts that will give you 60bhp

My 1962 Estafette has the little 1100cc engine and its fine to keep up with traffic and can cruise at 50/55mph.
Its more the low gearing thats the limiting factor. I would give it a try first and see how you go...
How many are there over here? Would be great to see another one...

I saw an Estafette on the road somewhere down near Wrexham a few months back. To say I was surprised was an understatement!
