Erratic Running

We have a 1989 Reno R4 GTL 1108cc. Sometimes it runs really smoothly and sometimes it sounds like I've left a bag of little spanners in the engine and it's not at all smooth, plus it's worse the heavier the load.

I have checked and adjusted the tappets, checked the fuel pump is pumping plenty of fuel, tuned the carb with a Colourtune, fitted new plugs, checked and adjusted the points, and checked the vacuum advance moves when I suck on the carb end of the tube.

Any ideas anybody?

Also, suspecting it maybe an intermittent distributor problem I have been looking for a replacement. I have seen a ducellier dizzy for a 1.4 Traffic engine but would not know if this is suitable. Any thoughts on suitable distributors?

Forgot to say

Check the condenser.

The can can look fine but the bottom (where the wire comes out) may look past its best, which is a good indicator.

If the condenser is faullty, then it will affect the points.

I will check the condensor. The website mentioned has been checked out and they have a replacement distributor for 79 euros, am waiting until I go back to France to buy!
