I have no idea what they're called, the little shock absorber clamps that hold the exhaust in place underneath the car. They have bolts on both ends with rubber in the middle.
I have a few missing on both my cars and I've seen a few R4's in town with the same problem.
Are they readily available and is this a common problem?

** yes, those are very common and if you take yourself to almost any spare parts store and ask for such rubber holders, i am sure you will find ones.
I bougth 2pcs for mine 1euro/pc.

Take remainings of your rubbers supports with you to the store...

Minis had the same sort, so if you have any Mini specialists around they should stock them.

They are still available from Renault,and are better than the after market ones.

Try to find some dealer of Sasic products. They have it in their car division spare parts program in rubber-metal parts. Good quality, but could be a bit higher prices..
