Exhaust wrap

My repair said that many of the places he had to patch were where the exhaust runs and suggested that I use exhaust wrap to prevent problems in the future. Has anyone else used this?

I've tried wrap in an attempt to lower the radiating heat under bonnet. It seemed to do it's job in this respect,but I noticed it collected
humidity to the degree that when I checked it the pipe underneath it was all covered in coarse rusted flakes all Nearly gone through the metal...(Pipe was all ok and with no rust when installed...
-Not saying this will always happen,but just my tupp'ence worth -ok? -Reid.
