Hello

I am removing my petrol tank and wonder what one does about the feed pipe to the carb. I guess I will need to cut it but where near the tank or nearer the wheel.

The floor is rusted out and will need replacing so I could cut it aeay about the tank.

What do you advise?

Martin

As you drop the tank itself on the top you will have access to the sender unit ( awkward but possible) before fully dropping/removal of tank, you should be able to access the rubber pipe connecting sender to fuel line when disconnecting fuel sender wire and breather pipe from tank, so really until the tanks out there is no need to cut said metal fuel line

Thank you. But as the floor is so rusty and full of holes I ripped up a section and got access to the top of the tank.

It was half full of rusty petrol and when that was emptied out I got several pounds of rusty metal. Not sure if the tank will be recoverable.

Is the Fuel pipe in good order or need replacing? Had my tank out on my R4 when doing chassis repairs & decided to replace as it was a bit snotty in places along the sill. I re-fitted the tank with a length of re-inforced flexi petrol pipe and managed to join it to the (new) rigid section where it comes through the Chassis rail tank side. A Bit tight but do-able.... you'll certainly have more room cutting and joining in the wheel arch area however.
