Fitting a new car horn

Hi can anyone assist me in telling me where or how to fit the new ( second hand ) car horn to my Renault 4 TRL pls

Welcome Julia,

Have a look under the wheel arch just in front of the left side front wheel and you should find the old horn attached to a strip of metal that supports the front bumper mounting. There should also be a wire.

It's an exposed area, and the connections can get dirty. When you unbolt the old horn clean the attachment with sandpaper before fitting the new one. Also move the connector on the wire up and down on the connector on the horn to clean the electrical contact. Petroleum jelly on all of the bits you've cleaned will help keep water out of the connections.

You might find the old horn still works but the connections were poor.

Almost forgot. I notice you are in the English department in France. Are you French of English? Do post some photos of the R4 - we like to see them in their natural environment.

Many thanks for your reply. I will get on to it. I will post some photos of my little Rosie. She has been rather "tarted up" as her previous owner hand painted her rose red (he was French and a painter and decorater of walls not cars but it is a pretty awful paint job) her original colour can be seen in places that he missed and she was a sort of salmon pink, which in French is rose , hence her name. I just love her. I would love to restore her ............ It is true that there are lots of them in circulation here in my area of France , from white and gendarme blue to a peculier mustard colour and a sort of burnt orange. I know several people who have them here.
I have been aware of your site for a couple of years now, I have owned my Rosie for 4 years. I wrongly called her a TRL but she is of course a 4TL but the French mechanics in my garage call her "ma belle quatrelle" beautiful 4tl and I translated that to 4trl excuse me. I am English living in the Dordogne for 15 years.

Hi Julia

Greetings from the East!

The number of English people on the forum that live in France seems to be growing daily.

The early R4s were the 4L hence the french name.
