i ve bought a virtually new one from France ,could anyone advise what needs to be changed to fit it to my1984 r4,is this something I can try myself? Any suggestions much appreciated

Thanks

Brian

Hi it's a 1.4 the code on the engine is 03je7/60
C173854

I hope this means something

Thanks

Brian

Think you should have a short code on the alu plate, like c1j or c2j and something else...

I am going to go with it being C3J
This will be a mono point injection 1390cc cleon from a 91 to 94 transverse R5
Think we need a pic or two before I do anymore typing as this is going to get complicated if I am correct ☺

I ll take some pics and look for more detail,as its low mileage 30000km I guess it's from a relatively recent car, can't really believe how good a condition it in

Hi it's a c3 it's got the water pump at the rear of the engine and seems to have different engine mountings,I d be grateful for any advice about how to overcome these issues ,is a Gordon's engine different? My mechanic friend has gone away to think about it ,we may just take it out and try !here s some pics. I hope

This is exactly the same engine as you have got there Brian I bought this car today as you can see the engine is designed to be mounted transversely on all the later Renault fives built from 1985 onwards
There are similarities obviously between two engines I personally wouldn't attempt it the amount of modifications needed is far greater then you are likely to be able to overcome easily20151105_141146.jpg20151105_140843.jpg

Thanks, that confirms what I thought ,horbourseal has got a link and this shows how to fit the engine, does nor look easy, but we like a challenge!and as I will be using this car a lot so I think it's worth a go

I looked into this 30 years ago when the thought of a 5 gt turbo engine crossed my mind
Bearing in mind I have had 40 years experience of only working on renaults and successfully fitted a 1647 engine instead

I gave up reading the link harbourseal provided when it was posted the first time round as the amount of fabrication and custom parts seemed to be ott
Respectfully if your car is perfect it will devalue it
And to find out halfway through that your car is rusty will further depress you
To run the injection system on the engine you've got will need matching ecu
The ports on head won't match if you try original carb etc
It is possible to swap pulleys to other end but camshaft from 1108 wrong timing for injection engines
There are loads more things I can help with if you are committed to this but don't say I didn't warn you

Ps the 5 I bought today is a one owner car which caught fire having welding done and will be spares only 20151105_140958.jpg20151105_141038.jpg

Thanks Paul I ll speak to my car mechanic friend and see if he s up to it,really appreciate your offer of help
