Front number plate

1983 car. My car has it's front numberplate mounted on the front bumper, via a rubber support.

But there is also a cranking handle hole in the front valance.

Can I fix the numberplate 'above' the front bumper (i.e. on the bodywork below the plastic grill?).

I ask because the area in question is not continuous, it has slots, presumably to let air through. The numberplate will block these slots if I put it there.

rogermunns! -try it out-and if you do not have a problem with numbers or letters being SUCKED-in through the grille above you should be safe&sound......
(check to make sure the numberplate don't rub against the bumber when you tilt the bonnet..... -R.

It is best to mount the numberplate over the slots - the slots were only included for 1983 and 1984, and they provide too much cooling so the heater is not effective in winter.

If you are fitting a standard french number plate it should fit just above the cut out - the deeper UK number plates need to be cut/filed to allow the bonnet to open as reidalpine mentioned.

You probably don't need reminding, but here you have to rivet the plates on.
