Hi

I have just purchased a 1983 R4 which has had an electrical fuel pump fitted which runs all the time - I am used to SU ones which only run when needed. The old mechanical pump is still fitted with the level removed and plastic stuff in the gap!!

I have removed the pump and cleaned out a load of crud and rust and it looks ok now. However the diaphragm is u/s so I need a new one, anyone know where I can purchase one?

It's easier to buy a new fuel pump than try to replace the diaphragm. They are only £20 but it's become a bit more fiddly after Brexit. There are still people advertising them.

Do you know the make and model. I note that it is different to the one on my later GTL which only has an inlet and outlet. The 1983 one seems to have a third pipe which I assume is a feed back into the tank.

This is a sealed fuel pump, so you can't reach the diaphragm. What you have in your hands is the upper cover gasket. You can make it if you can find Viton rubber sheet.
