Hi all, I have picked up a whole roof with a full length sunroof I can cut out of it, the roof is a sort of thick rubber type stuff, it has a split down the centre where the front and rear central hinge bit is

Anyone replaced the rubber cover before? or should I repair it with a large strip of rubber and contact glue?

Im going to have to cut a whole in the R4's roof, will standard nibbler be up to it? then i need some sort of profiling tool to bend the roof lip into shape, not sure what its called in English, in French its a 'pinche a soyer'

Anyone done this before?

I normally use micro thin cutting discs on my angle grinder, makes it very and easy to cut compared to a nibbler.

Would an option be to cut the upright part from the old roof and braze or weld it onto your existing roof?. I remember the upright part being quite high, maybe 20mm?, and swaging the corners would not be easy.
I love those original sunroofs
Alan.

I was thinking about creating a 1cm sunken lip in the orig roof and sitting the newly cut out bit in that lip then spot welding...

Making a lip like this in the orig roof:

Get one with the hole punch in it, as it comes in handy for punching holes for spot welding.

Two tools in one for only a couple of quid more.

good thinking, if its got a hole punch does it punch a hole everytime you make a profile? or is it optional? if you know what i mean

Its double sided, one side is for making the flange, the other side is the punch. (two sets of jaws)

A very handy tool!

I did the same thing, collected a sunroof in a scrapyard just sewing the pillars...
Now is in my basement, and I would like to fit it in a project car...
I am very interested in your work, please do plenty of photos!
