HI EVERYONE, MY RENAULT WENT TO A GARAGE THAT I HAVEN'T USED BEFORE FOR A SERVICE AND MOT. IT NEEDED NEW WHEEL BEARING BUT APART FROM THAT WAS RUNNING WELL. I PICKED IT UP AND IT WAS CHUGGING AND STALLING EVERY TIME I STOPPED. THEN I WENT GO OUT IN IT AND THE ENGINE WOULDN'T EVEN START, THE IGNITION WAS DEAD. IT'S BACK IN THE GARAGE BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO HAVE A CLUE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. HE JUST SAYS IT WILL BE OK FINGERS CROSSED. I'M IN TEARS HERE. HELP!

Hi

The battery possibly went flat due to constant attempts to start the car. Did they change the contact set/adjust the points and timing as part of the service? If they are not familiar with R4s, they might have got the settings wrong. Did they degrease then hose down the engine bay as part of the service? Water/condensation under the distributor cap or HT leads /spark plugs wet. In addition, there is a short hose with a one way restrictor valve at the back of the base of the carburettor/manifold, if this hose becomes disconnected it would cause the symptoms you mention, it does not usually have hose clips attached and they may have dislodged it whilst servicing.

In addition, they may have adjusted the carburetor (mixture and idle speed) as part of the service incorrectly.

I was thinking maybe they were setting exhaust for MOT and change position of mixture screw.
And however position is good for eco test it could be wrong for driving the car.
