Could you good people out there advise me as to the easiest way to replace the rubber and nylon bushes that gear linkage goes through and are fitted in bracket on the cross member going over engine. The old ones are completely missing so don't know which way rubber one faces big hole forward or backwards and how difficult to take linkage apart.....Thanks for any help

Maybe this will help........
Mount the rubber part first and then use a silicon spray (ok for rubber) or dish washing liquid as a lubricant when sliding in the nylon

Thank you Mojobaby it seems from diagram large Hole faces forward and I assume you split gear linkage and slide washers along and mount them in bracket and then reassemble linkage

Hi Rolemin, the gear lever is in 2 parts, so if you undo the two bolts and nuts that connect them, you will be able to pull them apart. Hold onto the front piece and pull the back half backwards (towards the cabin) to separate them
At this stage it might be easier to just remove the bracket from the cross member and slide it backwards off the front half of the gear lever. Then you can replace the bushes on your work bench Much easier:)

I am just doing the same on my French bought van, it does not have such an elongate mounting for the linkage above the radiator but the bushes look the same. Presumably these are the same at the top of the gear stick? Does anyone have a part number or supplier for the small one at the cabin end of the tube through the bulkhead?

Yes I was thinking that removing bracket was easier option ,will have go during week

Just had another look and compared the bushes I got from der franzose. The ones they have sent are bigger, both rubber and plastics parts. Any ideas on where to get the ones for the van? 1985 850cc.

I got mine from lifestyle Renault they are genuine Renault cost £20.21 with postage.Give them a try and ask for Tom in stores they are a supplier recommended on here maybe able to help

Thanks Rolemin, I'll give them a try. Did you get the one for the tube into the cabin too?
