Gearbox switch

Hi

I have a connector on the side of my 4 GTL which appears to be an earth. Would this be something to do with reversing lights?

this is 1 pin reverse light switch. I have it on 1982 GTL (TL with Cleon).

Think mine must be broken as it goes to earth regardless of which gear is selected.

My battery earth is grounded to the front left of gearbox as looking at car from front, this has a direct earth feed to radiator fan taken from same point, on mine its a ring terminal under same gearbox bolt, maybe its just an alternative earthing point for ancillaries, local to fan front lights etc.,the reverse light swith is on the right hand side of gearbox looking at engine bay from front.

I also have the earth point on the left hand side. The other thing is screwed into righthand side.

I've seen an earth point there. It's just a plug with a terminal attached. Never seen anything connected to it so maybe something to support some country specific option.

Indeed as @malcolm wrote this is just an earth connection.

it's located in the gearbox and you think it's not for revers light?
