gearchange mechanism

Hi
I seemed to have lost the rubber washer/gearchange bushes from the gear change mechanism. To stop the rattling I have made up a disk using cardboard and gaffatape but think I need to fix it properly. Where can I find spare/s and is it fairly easy to fit??
Many thanks
lucie

Thanks for that. I am not a complete idiot and have already tried my local garage. But without me telling them excatly what part/s I need they insist to have to book the car in and will charge me accordingly.

Hi mathizig! -without knowing Which 4 you have I would guess you need the bushing consisting of outer rubber-part with mild carbon steel inlay pt#06 08 335 900 & 06 08 336 000
If you're not a complete idiot-your local R.dealer must be.
I would therefore go to the Next nearest dealer hereafter!
Easy-piecey to shift-just unscrew gearshift about midways on
top of engine 2 screws I think then pull it into the car use a hook
made locally to distract/pull out the old bushing if somethings left-lightly oil
new one and hammer it in-,make sure it is aligned with hole so it
won't get stuck halfway..... -R.

I found your reply to my suggestion to go to a Renault parts dept very offensive. I am not a mind reader and you would be suprised at how many people do not think of going to their local Renault garage when trying to obtain parts.

Sorry for the poor quality scan - are these what you need? (they go on the end of the gear stick in front of the radiator. You'll make more sense of the German than I can). They are from Der Franzose

First of all, sorry Steve that you were offended by my reply. Actually I thought you were rather rude to advice me to go to the 'shop', when I asked the forum for help on which parts I needed and how to fit them. This at times can be a bit intimidating particularly if it is something simple.
maybe I should have been clearer and please accept my apology.
Malcom, thanks for the scan...looks like the right bits to me and also thanks for the fitting advice ( R)

if the parts you need is to the front of the gearstick (front of rad)
orig.pt#77 03 073 093 (soft rubber-ring)plus nylon/plastic ring
pt.#06 08 330 500 mounted on the gearshift-support..
There are two more look-alikes going on top of gear-stick itself
pt#77 00 532 414 (again soft rubber-ring) plus pt.#77 00 520 531 zytelnylon/plastic ring going into the rubber one..
-I thought you meant the bushings in each end of the pipe the gearshift goes through from inside car to engine bay.....
All straight forward to change-Good luck!

I'm happily confused now. I'm glad everyone has their feelings sorted out (the written word just doesn't work very well - that's the trouble with forums. Steve would get on very well with Lucie if they met).

I did pick up the fitting advice thing - which bits are we looking at? Is it where the gear stick passes through the bit that goes across the car just in front of the engine? Those things are a pain to fit. There's a little white plastic bit that goes inside a rubber bit. I tend to fit the plastic bit inside the rubber bit first then push the rubber bit through the crossmember using a screwdriver. A good coating of vaselene helps a lot.

There's sometimes a circlip attached to the gear stick rod that can push the inner bit out again. The circlip can be moved up the gearstick if that's the problem.

It's unusual for these bits to disappear completely. Normally they just move and fall somewhere else on the gearchange mechanism.

Photos could be useful - there's a guide on http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5016

The parts lost are in front of radiator. Just ordered the bits as shown in Malcom's scan and hopefully all will be fine....
Thanks
Lucie

Aren't they just! I had to fit a new one recently after the original split. I went for the opposite technique though, rubber bit in first then white plastic bit in that, whilst attacking it with a screwdriver.

Got the spare from Whitehouse Renault as advised on here.

I have found the rubber part of both bushes to be disappeared on more than an instance-perhaps they tear and get lost on the go.
I agree with the technique of RuffianDick, I first fit the rubber grommet then the bush (clamping it in a vice), a rubber-friendly lubricant is essential.

Hi all,

Here is the picture off the renault parts.net system dealers use...

If anyone would like any parts info and are too afraid to go to renault just email me renault4mad@aol.com with your reg number or chassias number and i will look up anything...

cheers

got all the bits and tried to fit them. HOW ON EARTH CAN THIS BE DONE???? As suggested by forum tried with white bit already fitted and without, but absolutlely NO success. Feeling totally defeated so here' my question:
DO I NEED TO FIT THE WHITE BIT????

Of course you need! It is rather fiddly, the technique for the radiator bush is to fit the grommet in the housing first, smear the inside with rubber-friendly lubricant, then press the plastic bush in by clamping both parts in a vice. The bush has a chamfered side and it is self-explanatory this should go first.
The other bush, joining the two lever parts, has an alternative way of fitting: Place the bush in the grommet, then insert a part of the grommet lip in the lever hole, and with a help of a small screwdriver prise the rest of the lip over the hole a little at a time. Just like fitting a grommet on the bulkhead, with more force and patience. Rubber grease is essential, too, and be careful, it is easy to injure your fingers with the screwdriver.

hi - please could you help me find some gearstick bushes?! I need to replace the bushes etc that are at the front of the engine bay - gearstick to vertical gear lever (high above gearbox), plus gearstick through central support bracket (above engine). Any part numbers and/or sources for these would be fab! Reg A411TES, 1984 F6 van.
Kind regards
