I took my GTL out for its first drive of any distance in the week (Grimoldby to Grantham and back) 110 miles round trip.
The car went quite well the 123 ignition seems to perform well. I think it may be over fueling with the 32seia as the way to get it going well was to back off the accelerator. What do you think Steve?
Tomorrow will be the next big test of to Knebworth about 120 miles each way, I know this is nothing compared to Malcolm and Bobble but the car has been of the road for some time and it takes time to build confidence.
My first impression is that that I like my R4 very much and will make more effort to get it out and about next year. Gary

Hello Gary - not familiar with that carb but sounds as if it's running a bit weak. I assume that there is not too much response from the accelerator?? To test out my theory pull the choke out a little at a time and then accelerate and judge for yourself if it makes any difference. Can I assume that the ignition timing has been adjusted for optimum performance?

Steve timing and carb set up set by local garage with renault experience.
Picks up well from lower speeds once you get to 55 plus backing off a bit increases the speed have not had it flat out but took it to 75Mph for a short spell.Gary

Gary
what is your impression of the 123 ignition? Its a lot of money - so the gain should be significant, but is it?

And did you change the coil for a performance model - if so, which?

Glad to hear the R4 is going well!

Rick

Ignition and carb fitted together so not sure what brought about the improvement to the car.
Made my 135 mile trip each way to Knebworth this week end and I was very impressed with the 4 ,however she disgaced herself on the way home by breaking a throttle cable and an electrical fault.
I was able to shorten the cable and reroute it to get me home but did not have time to look at the electrical fault.
My rear fog lamp indicator light would flicker on and my fuel gauge go of for a few seconds at a time .I suspect a short or a faulty connection.
Anyone else had this problem?
It was great to see three fours together at Knebworth (pics later) and it was particularly nice to meet a young couple Glenn and Kako with a red four who Joined us for the day.
We need the enthusiasim of younger people to keep the old cars on the road.Gary
