Hello, thought it was time i introduced myself.

I have been looking at this great site for over two years.

The owner of a red (705) gtl for nearly four years, and sad to say i have only driven it around a farm yard a few times. and on and off a car trailer more times than i care to admit.
I have a workshop, car, and tools all together for the first time, and now the great rust hunt has begun, and i can say i have struck gold!!!!
So i thought i would be polite, and say hello, before i fire off lots and lots of questions.

Many thanks in advance. Chris.

Hey Chris, welcome here!

Good luck on your project. Will it be a body-off restoration? I'm sure all your questions can be answered on this fabulous forum.

Regards,

Rutger.

Hi Rutger,

Yes, the body is coming off in the next few days. I think the chassis may well be as bad, if not worse than yours. shopping list so far, both inner and outer rear wings, and a boot floor. Is the body an indicator of the chassis?
Must say i am surprised how small the bolts are, to join the body/chassis together, must be very strong sealant.
I have a Rover 100 with rusty rear wheel arches also, so i think i must love rust!!

Chris.

Well, once you start restoring a car, that fondness of rust will disappear soon enough, trust me  ;).

Anyway, yes, the sealant is very strong. If you have a hoist or something like that, just lift the whole up like I did but have a little patience too, in that way you can probably avoid the bootfloor bending (which will straighten out if bent, as I've been told. But it's better avoiding than curing I guess).

In my case the body was by no means an indicator for the shape the chassis was in. My body's got some rust but all in all is quite good. The chassis was, as I guess you saw, one big pile of rust. Hope yours is way better.

Good luck and I'm looking forward to the photographs ofcourse ;).

Rutger.
