GTL Indicator stalk playing up

Can anybody shed some light on a GTL indicator stalk that doesn't stay in the left turn position ? What i mean is ;whenever, I indicate to go left the stalk immediately flicks up, but funnily, it stays on when I want turn to go right.I have to keep it physically pressed down to keep the left signal going as I turn left - a pain in the neck as well as the finger!
Anyway, it might not be the cancel in the steering wheel, because, it does this in a straight line - prior to any steering movement.
So, would I need a new indicator stalk ?,If so, can it be replaced by an average joe ? Appreciate any advice from the experts out there and thankyou. (great site)

I tried mine at all sorts of steering wheel angles and the indicator worked, so it's definately not the position of the cancel on the steering column.

Is it touching the plastic cover below the steering column and not getting it's full travel? Otherwise there's probably a plastic bit or spring inside that's broken. It's easy to replace - undo the plastic cover under the column. Remove the other switch if it looks like it'll be in the way, than undo a couple of screws to remove the indicator switch from the column. There's a wiring connection that pulls apart too.

Liam might have a secondhand one, or Renault prices might not be too excessive.

I have checked, and it does seem to be getting full travel. So I will follow your other advice and get hold of another one.
Thanking you for that .

Great ! very reasonable - saves me the hassle of digging around for one. I'll contact you via your email for it.Thanks.
