Handbrake lever mechanism

Hi, does anyone have a photo, or can describe, how the handbrake linkage on the old dashboard mounted handbrake is set up in the engine bay? I am not convinced my set up is correct but I don't see how to correct it, the springs don't seem to work as Haynes depicts it, nor does it seem possible to set it up as Haynes suggest, and the handbrake lever moves to 'off' as you look at it, very quickly, which also suggests it's not correct!

And how do I add a photo to a post, it must be easy, but I can't figure it out!

Chris

After you write your letter in the space provided, you have to scroll further down the page and you'll find another section "Additional options" where you'll find "attach photographs".
A box will appear on the left hand side of your screen. Click on "Browse" . This will enable you to choose which photo you want, provided you've already uploaded it to your computer.
Then click "Upload" and when that is done click on "close window" at the top of the box.
Then click on the "send" which is below the section "Additional options"
Hope that helps

Hi mojobaby - many thanks for the info on attaching photos, I was just using the quick reply, not ticking the "Go Advanced" option, all then became clearer. All I need to do now is work out how to put a text comment by each photo!

Still in the dark about the handbrake linkage though......

I have just rebuilt mine from scratch.

there are two springs, one holding the handbrake OFF and connected to the gearbox. The other (I used a velosolex spring) which holds the hooked rod downwards so engaging the ratchet. So when you pull it on it ratchets and stays on. Then you twist the lever to disengage (pulling against the spring).

2 minutes and I will take a photo for you.

The left hand spring goes to a little hole (on a tab) on the gear box. The top spring goes from the hooked rod down to a hole in the upright lever.

Hi Triprenees - many thanks for that, all is very clear now. I have the spring on from halfway down - but on mine the other end goes into a convenient hole in the inner wing rather than the gearbox - but the spring onto the end of the hooked rod is missing. I can one see the hole in the hooked rod for the spring to go into, so will attend to that this afternoon. The picture is very clear and informative, many thanks again, this is a great site!
Regards, Chris
