hello chums , was om the phone to a chap in the midland area a few days ago about headlamps for the old girl. and he said that Mazda MX5 mk1 headlamps will fit a Renault 4.. would like to know the chums on this site think .regards mike xx or did i just dream this phone call?

Hi, don't know about the MX5 but the Renault 4 headlight was originally the same as the old Cibie Oscar. Then the later GTLs went to the new Cibie Oscar with the different pattern lens engraving and the later type bulb attachment. I recall this is the same as those on the Lotus Elise S1, and I founfd an ad for lotus Elise headlights which have the integral sidelamp.... Anyone tried these?

Hello, I'm new here...

One question?

Do you know if the headlights of the Golf MKI are compatible with the Renault 4 GTL

I wanted to apply on my R4 crystal headlights.

With RHD headlights easily obtainable from Der Franzose I don't see the point in searching for alternatives. Nowadays my car breaker haunts have all disappeared and are now housing estates.

Incidentally how well do RHD headlights work once modified? The ribbed design on the glass has a pronounced effect on the beam, so must differ. Or so I have always been led to believe.

(Later) I went out and had a good look at my Cibie headlight lens and the ribbed patterns seem symmetrical with no bias to one side or the other. I see that Holdens (www.holdens.co.uk) sell 5 3/4" dia. headlights for our cars. Not cheap but they should last for years. One of my headlight reflectors has a small amount of rust at the bottom whilst the other is fine. I'll have to look into getting more powerful bulbs once I work out whether mine are P45t41 or H4 pattern, or are they the same thing?
