Just wanted to drop a note on last summer's driving with the 4L- albeit a bit belated.
We had taken a 300km round trip and all went well, rolled along the highway at 100 kmph. Got back to the house no problem. Next morning I jumped in the bagnole (in this case a term of endearment- old wheels) started her up and noticed the alternator light was glowing, so I popped open the hood and saw that the alternator/water pump belt was completely melted through! The idler pulley must have seized up a few km's before the end of our trip and melted through the belt once the engine was turned off. I hadn't heard any squealing (no dream of a radio), nor smelled anything hot or burning. The local garage had a NOS pulley, and I was more than happy to pay for labor. We thank our lucky stars!
The 4L also passed it's CT with only one issue- a tie rod end. The French term for a tie rod end has something to do with the knee- I had no idea what he was talking about until he pointed it out to me, oh! a tie rod end. But then again I don't know what a dizzy is.
Happy Trails,
Steve
